Become a Tigershark Offical!

Communications Tigersharks

Greetings Tigersharks Families!!!

Maintaining a strong core of Officials is very important to the success of our club, for several reasons:

  • Improves our ability to host meets and ensures we have adequate coverage for a successful meet.

  • Improves our relationship with other clubs as we support meets they are hosting.

  • Allows parents to become more involved with their child and become more knowledgeable on the sport.

Recognizing the importance of recruiting/maintaining Officials, as well as the additional effort/commitment involved, the Tigersharks Board has recently approved of a new policy to provide some additional benefits for those individuals from our club that are interested in volunteering in this way.  The new policy is summarized below:

Requirements

Complete all training/certification requirements through USA Swimming to become a certified Stroke & Turn or Admin. Official. In support of this, Tigersharks Swim Club will provide the following:

  • Reimbursement for the following fees associated with obtaining certification

  • USA Swimming Membership

  • Background Check

  • Athlete Protection Training

  • Concussion Protocol Training

  • A USA Swimming Official Shirt

  • A USA Swimming Official Nametag

Additional Considerations/Benefits

  • Tigersharks Swim Club will provide a one-time credit, per family, of $200, following completion of the following:

    • Officiate at 8 “Home” meet sessions and 2 “Away” meet sessions following their initial certification as Stroke and Turn or Admin Official.

    • Successfully achieving certification for the next “level-up” (i.e. Starter from Stroke and Turn, Deck Referee from Starter, etc.) and officiating at 8 “Home” meet sessions and 2 “Away” meet sessions following that certification.

  • Also, as with the previous policy, serving as an official also fulfills your volunteer commitment for each session.

For anyone that is interested in learning more about how to become an official, please feel free to reach out to Derrick DeWilde at president@tigersharksswimclub.com if you would like more details on the process involved.

Thank you all for your consideration!
